an armload of what have I

A little while ago I ordered some records over the "internet". They arrived but, as happens all too often with records journeying through the mail, they were banged up when they arrived. So I returned them. Then I got store credit. This morning I ordered another batch. Hope these ones arrive safe and sound. Here are the selections:

Post-War - M Ward

Neon Bible - Arcade Fire

Dressed Up For The Letdown - Richard Swift

Candylion - Gruff Rhys

Armchair Apocrypha - Andrew Bird

Rise Above - Dirty Projectors

North Star Deserter - Vic Chestnutt

Most of these I've heard a little bit of. I've never heard any of the new Vic Chesnutt but I've read some very glowing reviews. When Arcade Fire exploded a few years ago, I ignored them as I do when things are really popular. I just automatically discount it because that is my automatic reaction. I did peruse a bunch of songs on Neon Bible and I many of them have become my favorite songs in a long time. Really great and they do not wear out easily. They are not based on a catchy riff or new hand clap - they are actually just really potent and sophisticated and powerful. You would think that a song titled "My Body is a Cage" would be insufferably pretentious and overwrought. But no. It's beautiful.
